Kyaung Baing School in in the town of Thanbyuzayat, once the terminus of the Burma end of the notorious World War Two Death Railway. The line was abandoned after the war, but the town is bustling today.
BSB representatives were introduced to Kyaung Baing by a dynamic local Myanmar partner organization, “Precious Stones.” 312 students from KG through Grade 6 were attending this school when BSB was asked to help in 2017.
BSB supported construction of a 30’ by 30’ single classroom building. It was originally intended for kindergarten students, but the stairs were too steep for the young children, and it is instead is being used for the 4th grade class, with 48 students.
With the new building, the community plans to expand to a complete middle school by adding grades 7 and 8, which will allow even more students to continue their education.
